Box Office Associate

CTC is looking for individuals with proven customer service skills, proactive sales experience and strong computer skills. CTC’s Box Office team is responsible for providing superior customer service and for efficient processing tickets using the Choice Ticketing Software. Candidates must be available to work from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday. Hours and number of days may vary and there is some flexibility and occasional opportunity to work Saturdays and mornings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ticketing Responsibilities:

  • Take ticket orders for all events at CTC, ImaginOn, PLCMC and Rental Events, process the orders or pass them to the Manager, and record the desired marketing and mailing information. Process ticket orders for customer over the phone, online, in person, and through the mail.  Mail or will call tickets as appropriate.
  • Understand and operate Choice Ticketing Software to sell tickets, make exchanges, and access and update customer information.
  • Distribute will call tickets to customers at performance times.
  • Handle Group Sales inquiries and purchases. Actively pursue new audiences through identifying and contacting social, corporate and other groups. Direct customers to group sales coordinator when necessary.
  • Assist the Box Office Manager in data entry, paperwork and procedures for accurate record-keeping and sales for groups and individuals.
  • Count and balance deposited checks, cash, and credit cards at the close of each day.

Customer Service and Sales Responsibilities:

  • Proactively cold-call, sell, cross-sell, up-sell and ability to "close the deal."
  • Handle customer complaints or refer them to appropriate personnel.
  • Keep House Manager updated on special patron needs (i.e. wheelchairs); ticketing problems, number of seats sold each performance.  Be informed about local transportation routes CTC.
  • Be knowledgeable of all CTC production programs, CTC education programs, ImaginOn program, and Rental events, and know who to direct patrons too for further details.
  • Read and understand all production information sheets, newsletters and memos as requested by Box Office Manager.
  • Recognize and cross-sell productions and activities offered by the Children's Theatre of Charlotte and ImaginOn.
  • Process Class/Summer Camp registration for all education programs.
  • Provides customer service to the public as relates to Enrichment and summer camp registrations.
  • Assist with other proactive sales strategies to broaden current customer base.

Education/Experience:

  • Strong computer skills.
  • Customer service and sales experience required.

Production Stage Manager

This position is responsible for managing all artistic and technical aspects of current productions, as well as planning for future productions. The Production Stage Manager also supports the education department with any technical needs for the year-end School of Theatre Training performances.

Essential Functions:

Management responsibilities include the following:

  • Schedule and run concept, design and production meetings.
  • Work with production team to create a positive and productive work environment.
  • Assist HR and production manager with contracts and payroll information as needed.
  • Assist production manager with creating the master production calendar. 
  • Hire and supervise stage managers for production and education departments as needed. 
  • Work with house carpenter to acquire deckhands and student interns for run of show.

Stage management responsibilities include the following: 

  • Call shows and supervise scene shifts.
  • Coordinate with marketing all photo shoots and playbill information.
  • Maintain the artistic intentions of the director after show opens.
  • Participate in problem solving regarding technical running of the show.
  • Assemble and maintain prompt book including but not limited to: accurate playing text, blocking notation, cue sheets, scene shift plots, etc.
  • Organize auditions, callbacks and casting for all shows.
  • Participate for rehearsals as scheduled, assigning and supervising rehearsals as necessary.
  • Prepare and distribute rehearsal reports, performance reports and meeting notes in a timely fashion.
  • Run technical and dress rehearsals.
  • Reserve rooms for auditions, rehearsals and meetings.
  • Oversee rehearsal room set up and upkeep, as well as taping out ground plans on rehearsal room floor as needed.
  • Serve as the communication liaison between student cast members and parents.  Maintains and updates parent/student handbook.  Schedule and run parent/student meeting.
  • Communicate with CMS schools concerning student actors and CTC educational opportunities. Liaison with Audience Services staff concerning comp ticket forms and the start of the show.

Education, Experience, and Skill Level required:

  • Bachelor Degree, preferably a BFA.  Special consideration for individuals with an MFA.
  • Minimum 3-4 years progressive work experience.
  • Experience preferred in Excel, Word, Outlook, Calendar Creator, AutoCad or Vectorworks.
  • Working knowledge of ground plans, working drawings and AEA contract requirements.
  • Ability to work with large groups and children.

  • Flexible hours when needed.
  • Must be able to use industrial sewing machines.
  • Must have previous costume construction experience.

Audience Development Intern

With support from the Women’s Impact Fund, Children's Theatre of Charlotte (CTC) will commission and produce a new theatre work with a central theme of multiculturalism. CTC’s target audience for this project is young children and their families/caregivers. The production will be performed by CTC’s Tarradiddle Players Touring Company – CTC’s professional theatre troupe – over the course of two seasons, including a tour through the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library system and community centers.

CTC is offering an internship opportunity to college juniors and seniors to gain valuable research experience and to play a critical role in this exciting project.

As part of the preparation, CTC must develop evaluation and assessment tools in order to measure the success of the library tour. Interns will be part of research team that will observe children and caregivers in various local library branches across the county and document patterns of audience attendance and activity at the libraries. Additional duties may include observing audience behavior before, during and after performances at Children's Theatre of Charlotte and activities at ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center.

This internship is unpaid. However, CTC welcomes the opportunity to work with colleges and universities to incorporate this opportunity into class curriculum or independent studies for extra credit or community service requirements.

Dates of Service: October 2010-May 15, 2011

Duties:

  • Attend occasional meetings with project team at ImaginOn
  • Observe general usage patterns at area libraries
  • Interview a minimum 20 families using a predetermined questionnaire
  • Draft a report of findings based on observations and questionnaire answers
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by internship supervisor

Eligibility Requirements:

  • College juniors and seniors with majors in Theatre, Education, Psychology, Sociology or Business/Marketing
  • Provide transportation
