Education Programs

Education programs at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte inspire creativity, confidence and a sense of community through the exploration and practice of theatre skills. Professional teaching artists lead students through engaging, interactive sessions in our Studio classrooms at ImaginOn and at Satellite locations.

Creative Drama Series
(Pre-K through 2nd Grade)
- Now registering!

Creative Drama classes offer our youngest students a playful introduction to performing.  Students gain the ability to express themselves, build confidence, explore their imagination and develop basic social skills.  Students typically enroll in several sessions but can participate in sessions independently if desired. Creative Drama classes are designed for beginning and returning students and explore new material each session. Students ages 3- 4 can participate in a shared experience with a guardian, Side by Side, or an independent experience, My Spotlight. Students ages 5- 6 explore the ground work for theatre through vocabulary and characterization while dramatizing selections of current children’s literature in Story Starters. Shooting Stars introduces 1st-2nd grade students to scripts, improvisation, and theatre terminology preparing them for entry into the School of Theatre Training. Creative Drama classes are offered in Fall, Winter and Spring sessions.

Workshop Sessions (2nd-12th Grades) - Now registering!

Workshop Sessions offer beginning students an opportunity to explore theatre through an introductory process and offer advanced students seminars and practicum in theatre concentrations.  Like all Enrichment Classes at Children’s Theatre, the Workshop Series is process- driven.  These unique classes are designed for students to find their own artistic voice in a collaborative, creative environment.  Workshop sessions provide a great alternative for students unable to make the full year commitment to the School of Theatre Training program. Advanced workshop opportunities serve as a supplement to School of Theatre Training classes or other theatre training, providing pre-college style seminars and practicum for the dedicated student. Workshops are offered throughout the Fall, Winter and Spring sessions.  Be sure to check our website for new workshops added throughout the year!

School of Theatre Training Program
(3rd-12th Grades) -
Now registering!

School of Theatre Training (SOTT) Classes are geared toward students who are dedicated to studying the skills and techniques of theatre. Classes meet once a week September 27- March 10.  Students build theatre skills and techniques by moving through the levels of programming.  Level I Foundation classes are designed to broaden students’ knowledge as a performer and introduce them to the requirements of auditioning.  As students move into Level II Core classes they deepen their understanding of theatre concepts while learning how to audition, create a headshot and build a resume.  Level III Focus Areas are designed to introduce students to advanced acting and performing theories.  All Level IV Intensive and Specialty classes as well as the Level V Ensemble program classes immerse students in the application of theatre disciplines. Students who participate in SOTT are invited to audition for OnStage, a unique performance opportunity..
