For Schools

Whether your school comes to see a production, or we bring our award-winning shows and classroom experiences to you, Children's Theatre of Charlotte is an exciting resource for your students. We offer School Field Trips to ImaginOn to see all our Crown, Tarradiddle, Preschool and Visiting Artist Experiences. We also bring the magic of theatre to schools, through our In School Programs or through a performance from our Resident Touring Company, the Tarradiddle Players. See below for details, plus a chance to receive a grant for a field trip from Target!

School Field Trips

Children's Theatre of Charlotte offers weekday performances of our award-winning productions for schools in our two theatre spaces at ImaginOn. At a time when many schools are cutting back on arts programs, a trip to CTC is an outstanding opportunity to expose your students to the power and wonder of live theatre and the arts. Additionally, all CTC productions meet specific Language and Theatre Arts Curriculum Standards. Specific curricular ties are detailed in our enhanced Teacher Resource Guides, created for all our productions and many of our Special Events. These free Guides feature creative activities to help support teachers’ lesson plans, and reinforce curricular connections before and after the field trip.

Many schools tell us we provide one of the best values and most professionally run field trip experiences in the region. Our home at ImaginOn features two wonderful performance spaces, the 550-seat McColl Family Theatre and the 250-seat Wachovia Playhouse, convenient parking and other amenities which help field trips go smoothly and efficiently.

Whether you are a long-time attendee, or considering a field trip to Children’s Theatre of Charlotte for the first time, we hope you will join us for an experience your students and teachers will never forget!

Special Field Trip Grants Available from Target!
We recognize that this economy has made it harder than ever to provide students with unforgettable arts education experiences, and so we’re passing along a great funding opportunity. Target is working with non-profit organizations to spread the word about Field Trip Grants. This year, Target will award 5,000 grants of up to $700 to help fund field trips to great educational destinations - like Children's Theatre of Charlotte!

In School Programs

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte is dedicated to the idea that drama is an integral part of the human experience.  Our In-School Program offerings are designed to enhance different areas of study, support the curriculum, and achieve an “above and beyond” experience in the classroom.

Goals and objectives for the various programs align with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOC) and give teachers new and exciting ways to bring knowledge to life. Schools often seek funding support for these programs through PTA, private funds, or through a local granting agency such as ArtsTeach. All programs subject to availability.

Tarradiddle Players
Our Resident Touring Company has performed for well over one million children, in schools, community centers - towns big and small - across the Southeast, bringing smiles (and maybe a tear or two) to the faces of everyone they meet. We offer a completely self-sufficient, "turn-key" experience; our talented actors handle all set-up and breakdown, and are used to performing in a variety of spaces and situations.
