Children’s Theatre of Charlotte (CTC) is seeking a full-time resident teaching artist (RTA) to join our education staff. We are looking for a seasoned teaching artist who is driven and excited to deliver excellent, quality instruction for the wide range of teaching opportunities. Our RTAs have a flexible 40-hour workweek that may include day and evening hours. The position is benefit-eligible with a salary of $31,000 per year.

Typical year-round assignments may include:  

  • Teaching one of our 10-week Creative Drama classes for ages 2 to 5th grade and a 20-week School of Theatre Training (SOTT), grades 3-12, from September to May.
  • Serving on the artistic or production team for OnStage, a performance opportunity for our SOTT students from March to May.
  • Teaching in our Summer Camp from June to August.
  • Teaching at our in-school long- and short-term residencies, community partnerships, and ASC culture blocks throughout the year.
  • Teaching in our CTC Mini-Camps throughout the school year.
  • Assisting the Ed Team with Theatre 360 program (Sensory Friendly Performances, Education Nights, Story Explorers collaboration with our library partners).
  • Attending curriculum meetings and teacher training.

What we’re looking for…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Theatre Education, or equivalent professional teaching experience.
  • Experience, enthusiasm and drive for teaching ages 3-18 in two or more of the following concentrations:
    • Musical Theatre/Choreography/vocal instruction
    • Acting/Directing
    • Early Childhood & Elementary
    • Middle School/Teens
  • Proven ability to deliver quality theatre instruction based on CTC’s course of study and abiding by CTC training methods to meet student's need and ability.
  • Create lesson plans for education programs derived from defined and prescribed curriculum.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and staff, striving to maintain program quality.
  • Ability to develop, deliver and demonstrate professional development designed for CTC Teaching Artist and outside theatre education professionals.
  • Available to participate in weekly Education team meetings.
  • Able to provide administrative support in the Education Department.
