CTC is seeking energetic, motivated graduate and undergraduate students who believe in the power of theatre and the mission of CTC. CTC is a national leader among theatres by placing equal emphasis on innovative educational initiatives for elementary, middle, and high school students. Our summer camp is part of this theatre education experience.

Conditions

  • Summer staff must be able to provide their own housing in Charlotte.
  • Summer staff must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the theatre.
  • Time off during the allotted timelines will only be granted for personal emergencies (illness, death in the family, etc).
  • Compensation listed below is non-negotiable.

Summer Camp Counselor

Camp Counselors will directly supervise campers ages 3 -18. This includes assisting in the classroom, drop-off and pick-up, snack time, post care, and administrative duties. In addition, Counselors may have the opportunity to observe and collaborate with professional CTC Teaching Artists. This position reports directly to the Education Camps & Community Programs Manager.

Timeline: May 26 - August 14, 2020 (No camp the week of June 29-July 3)
Weekly Schedule: Monday-Friday - 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Compensation: $9.20/hour (40 hours per week minimum)

Job Requirements
  • Minimum of one completed year of college required.
  • Background in theatre or education preferred.
  • Classroom experience working with a variety of ages.
  • Reliable transportation to CTC satellite locations.
  • Comfortable with administrative duties.
  • Experience with customer service and/or interacting with parents of young people.

Summer Administrative Assistant

Timeline: May 20 - August 14, 2020 (No camp the week of June 29-July 3)
Weekly Schedule: Monday-Friday - 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Compensation: $9.20/hour (40 hours per week minimum)

Our Summer Administrative Assistant handles all the administrative duties for summer camp. These include generating camp materials such as rosters, story handouts, programs, name tags, and mailings while maintaining communication with parents, teachers, and summer staff. Administrative Assistants will directly support Summer Camp Counselors and Teaching Artists with student supervision while camp is in session. This position reports directly to the Education Camps & Community Programs Manager.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum of two completed years of college required.
  • Background in theatre, education, or administration preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher)
  • Working knowledge of Outlook and strong phone etiquette.
  • Experience working in youth programming.
  • Detail oriented, organized and unflappable under pressure.
  • Experience with customer service and/or interacting with parents of children and teens is a must.

    • Describe your role in working with a group of your peers.
    • What unique contribution will you offer to the Education Staff of Children’s Theatre of Charlotte as a member of the summer team.
  • Administrative Assistant Cover Letter. In the letter, please respond to the following:
    • Provide an example of a time you had to deal with an angry parent or customer? Include how you handled the conflict and how it was resolved.
    • Describe your role in working with a group of your peers.
    • What organizational techniques and tools have you learned to make school or a job easier, or to make yourself more effective? Give an example of a time in which you used these tools or techniques.
    • Describe your strengths and challenges in working in a fast-paced environment which requires impeccable attention to detail and multi-tasking.
