SummerStage 2026 - Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812
For Rising 9th Grade - recent 12th Grade graduates
From celebrated and award-winning composer Dave Malloy comes Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, an electropop opera based on a scandalous slice of Leo Tolstoy’s “War and Peace.” Young and impulsive, Natasha Rostova arrives in Moscow to await the return of her fiancé from the front lines. When she falls under the spell of the roguish Anatole, it is up to Pierre, a family friend in the middle of an existential crisis, to pick up the pieces of her shattered reputation. This award-winning musical expands the possibilities for the genre with its daring score and bold storytelling.
Claire Hilton is elated to be directing for SummerStage, having previously directed LES MISERABLES: STUDENT EDITION, and BEETLEJUICE JR. A passionate theatre educator, Claire has taught, choreographed, and directed at The American Shakespeare Center, Lexington Children’s Theatre, Sigmon Theatrical, and Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. Most recently, Claire served as the Director of Theatre at Charlotte Christian School, where her directing was recognized at the North Carolina Theatre Conference for 5 consecutive years. As a performer, audience members may remember her recent portrayals of Madison in THE INVISIBLE BOY, or Anna in DISNEY’S FROZEN, amongst others at the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte. Claire holds her BFA in Musical Theatre from Emerson College, and a Directing certification from The Barrow Group in New York City.
