Throughout the year, we offer exciting opportunities for weekend-long intensives and short masterclasses taught by guest artists. These are professional artists in their respective fields of acting and musical theatre performance. Students learn directly from Broadway actors, directors and choreographers! Previous classes have hosted:

  • Terrence Mann and Charlotte d'Amboise, Broadway legends
  • Trapper Felides, Broadway vocal coach
  • Phil Colgan, dance captain for the national tour of Hamilton

These are a perfect option for those looking for specialized training, while providing flexibility for busy schedules. Information on Guest Artist classes will be added below as they are scheduled.

Master Class - An Evening with Guest Artist Adam Cates

Friday, November 8, 7-9 p.m. @ ImaginOn | Cost $60 per family*
Join us for a Master Class with Adam Cates, author of the acclaimed book, The Business of Show. Having worked on Tony-winning Broadway musicals, grand operas, national tours, regional theatre, television, cruise ships, theme parks, corporate industrials, casino revues, festivals, concerts and at several university and conservatory programs, Adam will guide families through vital information for the career-driven student performer venturing down the professional path. With a fresh and honest focus, this Master Class will prepare young performers to pursue their dreams of working in "the biz", and a comprehensive understanding of the business side of the work. Family registration includes immediate family members and one copy of The Business of Show.

About Adam
First entering into show business as a dancer and musical theatre performer, Cates segued into creative positions on the other side of the table working as a director, choreographer, casting associate, playwright, and educator. After earning his BA in Theatre, Cates launched a performing career that included national tours, Lincoln Center, television and Disney. He went on to learn the craft of direction and choreography while assisting Tony-winners Tommy Tune, Kathleen Marshall, Darko Tresnjak, and others. Cates has directed and/or choreographed productions for Hartford Stage, The Santa Fe Opera, Arkansas Rep, Theatre Under the Stars, Music Theatre Wichita, Anchorage Opera, Memphis Playhouse, and at Lincoln Center. The Business of Show is the textbook used by top college training programs to help prepare students to enter the professional field as actors, dancers, and singers, and Cates has developed semester-length courses and guest seminars based on this resource.

*A single $60 registration allows all members of the same family to attend the Master Class, as participants or observers. Each family registration entitles you to one copy of the book. You will be asked for the total number of people attending in your party during checkout.
